Senior advocate R Venkataramani has been appointed as the Attorney General (AG) of India.

Venkataramani will succeed current AG KK Venugopal whose term ends on September 30.

tenure of new AG  is for a period of three years.

Venkataramani was born on 13 April 1950 in Pondicherry.

Venkataramani  as a member of the Law Commission of India in 2010 and 2013.

He enrolled as an advocate in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu in July 1977 and transferred his practice to the Supreme Court in the year 1979

He has represented the central government, several state governments, universities and public sector undertakings before the Supreme Court and High Courts.
